Visiting Massachusetts

Summer sunshine washes over Massachusetts, bringing the people of communities like Pittsfield, Concord, and Sharon outside to enjoy the warm weather. This season, a surplus of summer fun lines local event calendars, meaning visitors won’t have any trouble finding great ways to experience the Old Colony State.

The 2015 Backyard Sunday River Festival is a summer favorite of Lowell and Chelmsford residents. The free events bring a flea market, live music, and a variety of food and beverages to the Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell. Made up of four different dates, the festival takes place on June 14th, July 12th, August 9th, and September 13th.

Mild weather means fair season comes early to the Codfish State, and Rockland visitors will have quick access to one of the country’s oldest and finest fairs. The 2015 Brockton Fair is July 2nd through 12, promising thrill rides, fireworks, demolition derbies, wrestling, music, live animal shows and, of course, midway rides and games – all at the Brockton Fairgrounds, less than half an hour west of Rockland.

Gloucester, near Haverhill, hosts its annual mid-summer bash at Historic Stage Fort Park. The 35th Annual Gloucester Waterfront Festival invites visitors to njoy exhibitions, music, food, and more on August 15th and 16th.

It’s fishing season in the Bay State and Plymouth visitors are in a prime location. Take a boat out onto Green Harbor, Plymouth Harbor, and Cape Cod Bay via the Green Harbor Marina, just north of Plymouth, for the chance to reel in flounder, bluefin tuna, haddock, and cod.

In the heart of the state, Springfield and West Springfield visitors are just 40 minutes south of Greenfield and the Green River Festival 2015. Named “One of 2015’s Must-See Music Festivals” by Rolling Stone Magazine, the three-day event promises and eclectic lineup of big-name alternative acts, including Tune-Yards, Punch Brothers, and J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. It’s all held July 10th through 12th at Greenfield Community College.
