Visiting Boston

Beantown is booming this summer. Boston visitors are never at a loss for things to see and do, but this time of year, there's more excitement than ever. Special events, sports, festivals, and more family-friendly fun – better get planning and start packing.

Summer's warm, sunny days serve as an invitation to get out and explore Boston's many attractions and historic sites. Best to get out of the car and see it all up close – they call it "America's Walking City" for a reason, you know. There are so many nooks and crannies to discover, but Boston Common, the Freedom Trail, Boston National Historical Park, and the Beacon Hill neighborhood are good places for first-timers to start.

Of course, if you'd rather venture outside the city a little bit, there's always the Maritime Trail. The famous roadway reveals a beautiful version of Massachusetts' lush and diverse landscape this time of year, and attractions like Plimoth Plantation can add an educational dimension to your family's summer vacation.

Or step out of the car again, and on to a ferry. A quick ride from Long Wharf North will get you to the Boston Harbor Islands. There, your family can enjoy scenic hiking with unmatched skyline views and a little peace and quiet. You can even catch a vintage baseball game on Georges Island.

Sports fans know that's not the only place to enjoy America's Favorite Pastime this summer. Check the schedule and join Boston Red Sox fans for an evening of MLB action at Fenway Park – games are held a days a week through the beginning of October.

Movie stars, industry types, and cinephiles gather in Boston for the 32nd Annual Boston Film Festival, September 21st through 17th. One of America’s longest-running celebrations of film, the BFF showcases shorts, documentaries, and feature length films in multiple venues, promising special Q & A sessions with filmmakers and actors. Screenings and special events are held in venues throughout Boston, including Loews Theater and the JFK Library IMAX Theater.
