Visiting Greater Boston | Fall 2014
Beantown sports fans always have a heart-pounding summer, cheering on their beloved Boston Red Sox as the team swings for the Green Monster at Fenway Park. Baseball fans get their last chance to see the Sox go to bat this season, September 26th through 28th, as they close out the season at home with a three-game series against age-old rivals, the New York Yankees.
Still, in Boston and throughout New England, sports fans are arguably even more excited for the return of NFL Football. After a crushing loss in the AFC Championship Game last season, the New England Patriots are out to reclaim world dominance, defending the field at Gillette Stadium against the toughest teams in the league through the end of December. Gillette Stadium is located less than an hour southeast of Boston in Foxborough.
Basketball fans get pumped up for fall too. The Boston Celtics are gearing up to take home court at TD Garden on October 29th, starting the season off against the Brooklyn Nets. Check the Celtics schedule during your Boston visit – home games go through April.
Sports fans aren’t the only ones excited to visit the TD Garden this fall. The venue’s concert schedule is an eclectic mix of some of the biggest names of the last few decades. Cher pays a visit on September 26th before Enrique Iglesias comes with Pitbull in tow the very next night. Fleetwood Mac grace the stage on October 25th and R&B superstar Usher makes hearts melt on November 13th.
In addition to being an urban anchor for the region, Boston also stands as the cultural hub of New England. In celebration of the city’s vibrant arts community, ArtWeek Boston 2014 takes over venues all over the city from September 26th to October 5th, inviting you to “take ART into your own hands.” Of the more than 60 events happening in conjunction with ArtWeek Boston, many are free, many are kid-friendly, and some even feature art-inspired dining.
For first time visitors looking for an all-encompassing experience of the city, Urban Adventure Quest presents the Amazing Scavenger Hunt Adventure, turning Boston in to a giant game board. Now through December 31st, teams are guided by smartphone at their own pace, making their way through well-known and oft-overlooked gems of the city while using clues to complete challenges and learn about local history.
